Well, it’s been a tough month but I’m back now and will try my best not to let life get in the way again. This year’s birthdays are over so no more excuses!
The book is coming along nicely, though I’ve been fighting writer’s block. There are some good videos on YouTube that have helped me get over it and one even had advice from an author who wrote a bestselling novel about how to write faster!
One of the biggest things that I have learned recently is to just write. Who cares about words. Who cares if it is good. The rough draft is “puke on a page”. It doesn’t have to be perfect!
The thing about being creative is that there are always going to be imperfections. It doesn’t matter how much you try, your work will never perfect. As a creator, it will always be unfinished. And I have to be okay with that.
So, here are a few of the things that I have learned the last few weeks:
- It’s a rough draft for a reason: it is going to be rough, not perfect
- Writing crap is better than writing nothing
- No, I don’t have to write from beginning to end; write as the scenes come to me. (This has been a lifesaver recently)
- I have to write EVERY DAY!
So, no more excuses. The reward in the end will be worth it. Stay tuned for some great new posts. Not just about the book, but about writing and reading in general.
